India + Sweden Week: Forging links through business and culture

India+Sweden Week is being presented for the first time in 2014 as the flagship initiative of India Unlimited∞, a platform conceived and coordinated by the Indian Embassy of Sweden and Swedish and Indian partner companies to forge stronger and broader connections between India and Sweden. The two- stream programme designed to stimulate interaction and synergies between the two countries covers both business and culture and runs from April 22-28 with selected events continuing up to May and June, 2014.

According toBanashri Bose Harrison, Ambassador of India to Sweden, "Unlimited is the word that leaps to mind when one thinks of the possibilities and mutual benefits of bringing together Indian tradition of entrepreneurship and Sweden’s spirit of innovation; of India’s pool of trained human resources for R&D and science and Sweden’s amazing engineering prowess; India\'s abundance of young, highly educated professionals and the unique management style of Sweden." She adds, "India\'s diverse consumer market can benefit from Sweden’s originality and design and we are sure that Swedes, with their love of nature, would be charmed by India’s undiscovered destinations." She declares, "All the partners in India Unlimited∞ share the common belief that we are not even tapping 10% of the potential of India-Sweden collaboration."

India+Sweden week is to be officially inaugurated on April 23 at Hotel Clarion, Ringvägen 98 in Södermalm in Stockholm. Dr. Arun Maira, Member of the Planning Commission India with Ministerial rank is the keynote speaker at the inauguration. Other distinguished participants include Anna KinbergBatra, Parliamentary Group Leader of the  Moderate Party in the Swedish Parliament , Deepak Premnarayen, Chairman ICS Group and leader of the CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) business delegation and Anders Grundströmer - Managing Director, Scania India; President, Swedish Chamber of Commerce in India and HåkanKingsted, of the Sweden India Business Council. Two important studies will be released on this occasion – one onAccelerating Economic Engagement between India and Nordic Region and a Survey on Business Climate in India for Swedish companies. Highlights of the three-day business conference include sessions on R & D and Technology: IT & Security on April 23, Future Healthcareand Sustainable Infrastructure on April 24 and Redesigning India and Innovation on April 25. India+Sweden Week also offers a tantalizing taste of cultural programmes not seen before in Sweden.

  • “Which came first, the saree or the toga?” is a fascinating exhibition running from April 26-June 8 at Millesgården that showcases different weaving traditions giving aglimpse of India’s richly diverse history, traditions and cultures. Master craftspeople will be on hand to show their artistry.

  • And for the lovers of unusual cultural performances, India’s leading contemporary modern dance artiste and choreographer, Astad Deboo brings \'Rhythm Divine\' his unique creation with Manipur’s traditional PungCholam drummers to the ModernaMuseet on Friday April 25 that would be seen for the first time in Scandinavia (entry by invitation only, please send a request to socialsecretary[at]indianemebassy[dot]se by April 22).
