Saree Finissage at Millesgarden

On Sunday the 8th of June, the Embassy of India organised a show of different ways of wearing a Saree to celebrate the \'Finissage\' i.e. the conclusion of the Saree exhibition \'Saree or Toga, which came first\' which was hosted by Stockholm\'s foremost sculpture museum \'Millesgarden\' from April 26th, 2014. This exhibition which was a part of the \'India Unlimited\' branding initiative of the Embassy attracted several hundred visitors.

The concluding event was attended by an 80-strong audience and showcased Sarees from different States including Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala Rajasthan, Punjab, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. The host, Mr. David Stahl, Indologist and former chairman of Swedish-India Society told the audience about those States as the ladies of the Embassy displayed the Sarees.

In her remarks, Ambassador Mrs Banashri Bose Harrison said that the exhibition represented many aspects of India - its ancient civilisation; the continuity of traditions, its diversity, the strength of its textiles sector and, last but not the least, its "woman power". The audience enjoyed a taste of India with light refreshments and some took the opportunity to learn how to wear a Saree. Among the distinguished guests was Mrs Margareta Bjark, President of the Stockholm City Council who said that she was really impressed with the beauty and variety of the Sarees.
