Celebration of 2nd International Day of Yoga in Sweden

The Embassy of India in Stockholm in association with Yogobe and Art of Living, Sweden, will be celebrating the Second International Day of Yoga on Tuesday, June 21 from 1800-2030 hrs at Hotel Radisson Blue Waterfront. 

The event will begin with a broadcast of a message of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 1800 hrs. Well-known Swedish dancer and singer, Ms. Blossom Alexandra Liliana Tainton-Lindquist, who is a Yoga enthusiast herself, will be hosting the event which is expected to be attended by about one thousand enthusiasts.  The programme will consist of guided Yoga sessions on the basis of the Common Yoga Protocol which will include different Asanas, Pranayams and Meditation.  The Yoga teachers who will guide the participants include Sudheesh M Balakrishnan & Acharya Ratheesh Mani, from Kerala,  India who have been teaching Yoga  and practicing Ayurveda in Sweden since 2010; Satu Tuomela & Anna Gordh Humlesjö from Yogobe; and Jack Johansson & Forouzan Masoumian from Art of Living, Sweden. 

In addition to this main celebration, a number of Yoga events are being organized to celebrate the International Day of Yoga.  These include a curtain-raiser on June 19 at Humlegarden organized by the Hinduiska Samfundet i Sverige.  A major Yoga event will also be held in Varberg, in the south of Gothenburg on June 21.

A number of events to promote the 2nd International Day of Yoga have been held earlier in the year. On April 7, Embassy organized a seminar on the topic of ‘Yoga for Health’ in Stockholm.  The colourful day-long Indian festival 'Namaste Stockholm' on May 21 at Kungsträdgården (Royal Garden) began with Yoga where more than a thousand Yoga enthusiasts came together in a programme which concluded with an address by Swami Jyothirmay from the Art of Living on the spiritual dimension of Yoga. Art of Living Sweden organized "Sun Never Sets on Yoga" at Riddarholmen with the City Hall and Stockholm Waterfront Congress Center on June 12.

Events to celebrate Yoga will continue in September also. Yogobe will partner in a Pranafestival being organized in Sweden on Sept 3-4 followed by "Barnyogadagen", a  countrywide initiative for Yoga for children and schools,  on September 5 and a multitude of Yoga events in different parts of Sweden on World Peace Day on September 21, 2016
